This case series will highlight how ocular surface disease(OSD) in glaucoma patients negatively impact management and hinders treatment success. Periorbital changes and tight lids make intraocular pressure measurement difficult,sometimes inaccurate. Ocular surface changes and dry eye disease due to long term use of topical glaucoma medication affects the quality of diagnostic tests. They can also make patients symptomatic and affect medication adherence. Case 2: Impact of OSD and MGD to increase risk of postoperative complications
48-year-old gentleman, Mr T, an active smoker has DM and uncontrolled advance POAG and planned for left eye filtration surgery. Pre-operatively, noted Mr T had MGD, OSD with allergic component. He was started on treatment & subsequently underwent an uneventful LE Preserflo implantation when his MGD & OSD improved. One month post-op, we noted localised injected bleb with blepharitis and high IOP (26mmHg). 5-FU injections was given thrice and but his bleb condition persisted, hence we proceeded wi...48-year-old gentleman, Mr T, an active smoker has DM and uncontrolled advance POAG and planned for left eye filtration surgery. Pre-operatively, noted Mr T had MGD, OSD with allergic component. He was started on treatment & subsequently underwent an uneventful LE Preserflo implantation when his MGD & OSD improved. Post-needling his IOP came down to 7mmHg but only lasted about a month. His conjunctival is still mildly hyperemic with OSD but improved MGD.
